Lakeview Celebrates Extension of the VA TBI Pilot Program

Lakeview will take a moment of silence on Thursday August 14, 2014 along with our nation’s Veteran Heroes, to celebrate as President Barack Obama signs into law continued funding to rehabilitate veterans with traumatic brain injuries.  Last week, Congress passed a $16.3-billion VA bill that included a measure sponsored by Senators Cory Booker, D-NJ, and Dean Heller, R-NV, authorizing a three year extension for the VA TBI pilot program that provides assisted living and neurorehabilation to those with moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries, a program that has supported numerous veterans in Lakeview programs who have achieved successful outcomes from blast and brain injuries.According to the Department of Defense, more than 300,000 service members have suffered TBI since 2000, primarily from blast injuries.  Unfortunately, the injuries have become a grim signature of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where improvised explosive devices were widely used to attack our service members.Lakeview is honored to be a contracted civilian provider providing neurorehabilatation and brain injury services in WI and NH to our returning service members. We have had the privilege to support and serve a number of service members in our programs, and have seen firsthand the benefit of continued neurorehabilatation focusing on community re-entry.Lakeview thanks our advocates, Wounded Warriors and Congress for their tireless work to ensure the supports and services we owe the men and women who serve our country.  For more information: Stars and Stripes
